一九七三年，神帶領「建道」神學生在懲教機構舉行首次監獄佈道。是次聚會有三十位犯人流淚悔改歸主。兩個月後他們陸續出獄，在渴求栽培及關心的呼聲下，　一群曾參與監獄佈道的弟兄姊妹毅然成立「新生團契」，以招聚這群青少年釋囚一同唱詩、祈禱和查經。但當時因著經濟拮据，沒有固定的聚會地點，及欠缺全時間同工等等問題，使「新生團契」漸漸走下坡，甚至被逼解散。 人的工作雖然停頓，而神卻沒有停止工作。於一九七八年九月，在逼切禱告及恩典帶領下，「新生團契」重張旗鼓，並改名為「香港基督教更新會」，向政府註冊為非牟利機構，聘請全時間同工，繼續肩負監獄佈道的使命，向被囚的犯人傳揚使身心靈得自由的福音。 In 1973, a group of students from the Alliance Bible Seminary undertook the first evangelistic meeting in prison, in which 30 inmates confessed their sins and accepted Christ in tears. Those inmates were released after two months. Knowing their need for concern and follow-up, some brothers and sisters who were involved in the prison evangelistic work decided to form the “New Life Fellowship”. The Fellowship being set up suffered lots of hardships and even the fate of disbandment. Yet with God's grace and earnest prayers, it was finally transformed to be the present Hong Kong Christian Kun Sun Association in September 1978, registered as a non-profit making organization. It started to recruit full-time workers and continue the mission of spreading the Gospel of freedom among those in jail
